The Think Tank - Issue 22: Election Special

This General Election saw a result that few thought possible. Not only did the Conservatives manage to increase their majority in the House of Commons (a feat that hasn’t been achieved since Margaret Thatcher’s second term of office) but there was also no need for a coalition government. All the poll reports of hung parliaments and minority administrations were dispelled before dawn the next day. Not only this, but the SNP swept Scotland, with Labour and the Lib Dems being the biggest losers on the day.

With the election now over, the new politics starts now! The rarity of a coalition government may be over, but we’re bound to see the issue of Scottish independence raised again, as well as the guarantee of an EU referendum and the possibility of constitutional reform with a new ‘British Bill of Rights’. The next 5 years promises to be a very eventful time in British politics.

Unique among politics magazines, The Think Tank is written primarily by practising teachers, and is entirely specification-focused. In it we aim to draw out the exam-relevant issues of events, and make them accessible to students through discussion and exam-style questions.

Every article is commissioned for its relevance to key exam topics. It not only provides topical material for your lessons, but can also be given as extra material for eager students.

It’s also a jolly good read! You can preview the latest issue at http://www.ZigZag.at/ThinkTank.

“Think Tank is a welcome addition to the politics resources offered… The Quote, The stat and the top ten are really good. Aspects like this are, for students, what make it feel less of a chore when reading… The best feature of the magazine is that, in the areas covered it gives a different and usually more up to date comment on key exam issues… I am very pleased ZigZag has developed this idea. I intend to both subscribe and become a regular contributor.” — R Lawton, Government and Politics Teacher & Independent Reviewer
